The Colon Theater in the City of Buenos Aires is considered one of the best Opera theaters in the world. Known by its acoustics and the artistic value of its construction, it celebrated 100 years of existence in 2008.
The actual building is situated among the following streets: Av. Cerrito, Viamonte, Tucumán y Libertad, in Midtown, and was inaugurated on May 25, 1908 with the Opera Aida from Giuseppe Verdi.
This building has replaced the old Colon Theater, which functioned from 1857 to 1888, and was situated at the actual Nation Bank, just in front of Plaza de Mayo.
Since its inauguration in 1908 until now, great artists have played on it.
After a few years of absence due to a reform plan, the Theater Colon will be opening its doors in 2010, in occasion of the Bicentenario of the Argentine Nation.
